A new competition funding innovation to improve transport in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) has been launched by the High Volume Applied Transport Research Programme (HVT).
Transport is critical for growing economies, overcoming poverty and ensuring people access vital services such as healthcare and education. Yet in recent years we’ve seen infrastructures buckle under intense pressures such as the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change, particularly in LMICs. To meet these challenges, we need to think and act differently.
This Transport-Technology Research and Innovation for International Development (T-TRIID) funding asks businesses, institutions and universities to bring forward ideas that need further research but could hold the key to unlocking sustainable, safer, greener and inclusive transport.
What will be funded?
This is an open call grant competition welcoming all ideas as long as they are innovative and have the potential to make an impact in advancing the transport systems in LMICs. In line with HVT’s current areas of focus, ideas could focus on areas such as climate finance, climate adaptation and mitigation; digitalisation of transport, data integration, multi- and inter-modality transport, and enabling policy and regulation development – but ideas beyond these themes are also welcome.
Who can apply?
T-TRIID provides 100% grant funding and is open to all businesses (including micro, small and medium-sized enterprises), organisations and universities to conduct research and pilot projects. Organisations would preferably be based in the Global South, but applicants based in the Global North can apply but would preferably have partners and collaborators based in the Global South.
