The Decade of Action calls for accelerating sustainable solutions to all the world’s biggest challenges – ranging from poverty and gender to climate change, inequality and closing the finance gap.
The UN Resolution which proclaims the UN Decade “calls upon UNDESA, in collaboration with the UN regional economic commissions, to prepare an implementation plan in consultation with Member States and other relevant stakeholders.” The UN Decade can play an essential role in driving closer cooperation within the UN system, countries and other stakeholders to harness and enable the full potential of sustainable, low-carbon transport for people and the planet.
The Decade of Action begins on 1st January 2026, and there is now a tight deadline for consultation and development of the framework, with only limited budget available. SLOCAT is acknowledged in the UN Resolution as a key stakeholder and has been collaborating directly with UNDESA, and the regional commissions UNECE and UNESCAP since its adoption.
HVT has funded SLOCAT to produce a “Vision” for the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport and disseminate this across multiple forums. Through the “Vision”, SLOCAT are helping to bolster activities in a number of ways including;
- Galvanising the global transport community.
- Thought leadership on the challenges and opportunities towards transport transformations.
- Building consensus across stakeholders and helping to align narratives.
- Enhancing the collective understanding and preparedness of the UN implementation plan for the decade to maximise action.
