Objective
Without regular, consistent gender-disaggregated data, the needs of women and other genders in public transport planning, operations and decision-making are often ignored. Efforts to ensure their safety when travelling are thereby impeded. This project aims to close the gender gap in mobility data in India by supporting Delhi in generating gender-sensitive transport data.
Potential Impact
With data available about the needs, concerns and safety requirements of women, girls and other genders when travelling, transport planners will be able take steps to ensure their commutes are safter and more comfortable.
Approach
The project will undertake the following:
- Carrying out a gender disaggregated travel behaviour study on e-buses
- Gender tagging in electronic ticketing machines
- Rapid assessment on the pilot e-bus route
- Implementing evidence-based recommendations with support from the Delhi Transport Corporation
- Conducting an awareness campaign on public transport in Delhi
- Conducting an endline assessment survey to measure impact
Outcome
Digitalisation of the ticketing system on bus-based public transport in Delhi leading to an improvement in the safety of women on public transport.
