The Data Tracking initiative working group was formed in 2023 following the re-focus on SUM4All’s strategic direction. The focus of the working group would be on developing a product that could move the strategic narrative around sustainable transport and make the case for transport investments. Seventeen members volunteers would be members of the Data Tracking Initiative Working Group (henceforth working group).
Following a decision by the Steering Committee of Sum4All, a green light was given for the working group to (a) create a dedicated sub-group of members to work on a three to four page concept note that would define the scope of what this new strategic product around data could be; (b) develop terms of reference for the working group; and (c) create a dedicated sub-group around access to finance.
These ambitions align well with HVT’s work to boost access and use of data in low- and middle-income countries, including significant work in innovative ways to support cost effective data gathering and analysis. This has most recently been progressed further with the HVT work into the climate finance landscape and the Transport Decarbonisation Index. The proposal (concept note attached) for this additional funding leans into this work to give additional resource to SUM4All to:
- Conduct a review of data and indicators.
- Scope out further financial flows to the transport sector, building on HVT’s Access to Climate Finance project.
- Support the production of a concept note for the Data Tracking Initiative.
- Develop draft Terms of Reference for the Data Tracking Initiative Working Group.
