This project will aims to identify the opportunities and barriers for enabling and restricting women’s ownership and use of electric two-wheelers through five entry points: design of the vehicles, financing, driving license process and regulations, charging infrastructure and models, and institutional support.
The research shall be focussed solely on electric two-wheelers considering their high share in India and to ensure a detailed study is done within the project time frame. While two-thirds of all motor vehicles in India consist of two-wheelers, the proportion of electric two-wheelers and women two-wheeler drivers is still low at present. Research on electric vehicles in India have largely been gender-blind thus far.
