COVID-19 Challenge

COVID-19 has underlined the need for a transport knowledge resource to support policymakers, public agencies and transport practitioners in mitigating the impacts of the pandemic on the transport sector. The project responds to the need to fast-track access for low and middle income countries to knowledge, experience, learning resources and good practices on COVID-19 impacts and response.

The existing gTKP portal has been updated to include COVID-19 resources. The Project has been carried out in three steps. Firstly, knowledge and COVID-19 resources have been screened, collected and organised. Secondly, the gTKP website has been given a more modern look and feel and has been extensively re-organised. The COVID-19 repository has been organised into three sections – impacts, responses and recovery. The new overall structure of gTKP includes new sections on HVT and REeCAP programmes as well as a dedicated section for knowledge items produced by the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration (UNRSC).

Thirdly, a communication campaign has been conducted to promote the new portal and to consolidate partnerships to ensure its long-term sustainability and growth. Working closely with Slocat, the new knowledge pages have been identified in collaboration with leading organisations who have reviewed content and knowledge resources.

A webinar organised to launch of the repository will be followed by a series of thematic webinars organised in collaboration with other HVT-funded projects and key transport stakeholders/organisations. The gTKP thematic webinars as well as recordings of each webinar are available on gtkp.com.

Access has been enhanced for policymakers, public agencies and transport practitioners to research, analysis and knowledge resources on COVID-19 impacts and response options for the transport sector. Coordination and collaboration has been increased in research, knowledge and capacity building initiatives for low and middle income countries.
